Japanese late 20th to early 21st Century (Heisei period) lacquer & acrylic box by artist Suzuki Masaya (1932-2013) whose art or go name was Suzuki Hyosaku III.
Suzuki Masaya was the originator of the technique of lacquer on acrylic. His works are in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as well as the Seattle and Denver art museums.
This unique, modernist box is comprised of an acrylic base with black lacquer, and a carved acrylic top that has blue lacquer that is inlaid with pieces of abalone shell.
Comes with tomobako 共箱 (original artist signed wooden storage box) and blue tomogire 共布 (original artist stamped wrapping cloth).
Signed in gold lacquer on black lacquered base and in black ink on inside of tomobako lid.
