Japanese late 19th to early 20th century scroll of DARUMA by TAKEDA MOKURAI (1854 - 1930). TAKEDA MOKURAI was born in Nagasaki, Japan. He eventually was appointed to the head of KENNIJI Temple in 1892 in Kyoto. KENNIJI temple was founded in 1202 and is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. It is also considered to be one of the top 5 zen temples in Kyoto. The scroll measures 76" long and 18" wide. Signed. Comes with original box. Some scorching on upper part of painting. |
