Name: JAPANESE 20TH C. TENMOKU TEA BOWL BY KIMURA MORIKAZU

Description: Japanese 20th Century (1972) Tenmoku ware tea bowl by KIMURA MORIKAZU. Morikazu was born in 1921. He was the older brother of ceramicists Kimura Morinobu (born 1932) and Kimura Moriyasu (born 1935). Morikazu was the first born son into a family of a Kyo-yaki potter and he initially studied under Kyoto's foremost ceramic artist, at the time, Ishiguro Munemaru. He went on to concentrate on Tenmoku and Yuteki glazes and has been inspirational to all the new generartions of artists interested in these ceramic glazes and glazing techniques. He was awarded the Japan Society Award in 1967, as well as being awarded at the Nihon Dento Kogeiten. His works are held in many collections, including the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art and the Imperial Household Agency. The bowl measures 2 1/2" tall and 4 3/4" in diameter. Comes with TOMOBAKO, or original artist signed wooden storage box and TOMOGIRE, or original artist stamped wrapping cloth.
