Description: Japanese Showa period (Mid 20th Century) Art Deco cast hakudō 白銅 (white bronze or cupronickel) okimono 置物 of a standing polar bear by artist Hori Masaharu 堀政晴 (1922-2014).


Incised mark: 政晴作 Masaharu-saku (Work of Masaharu)

Comes with tomobako (original artist signed wood storage box).

Measurements: Length 8 3/4" x Height 4 7/8" x Depth 3"


Hori was from Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan.


He was a member of the Nihon Kōgei-kai 日本工芸会 (Japan Traditional Crafts Association) and exhibited many times at their annual exhibition. In 1983 he received the 30th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition Asahi Shimbun Prize.
