Description: Japanese late 20th century MUMYOI-YAKI vase by Living National Treasure artist ITO SEKISUI. ITO SEKISUI was selected as a LNT in June 2003 for his work with MUMYOI-YAKI. It was the first time time for a MUMYOI-YAKI artist to receive this recognition. He is the 5th generation to be working with MUMYOI clay, but he was the first of his family to get a formal education. He graduated from Kyoto Technical University in 1966. His works of art have been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as the Smithsonian. The vase measures 12 1/2" tall and 6 1/2" in diameter. The vase comes with TOMOBAKO, or original artist signed wooden storage box. (ranesu)
