| Description: |
Japanese Meiji/Taisho Period bronze vase by master bronze artist Oshima Joun (1858-1940). The vase has the design of a single tiger coming out from the bamboo forest. The eyes and teeth of the tiger and even some of the bamboo leaves are done in different metals. The vase incorporates gold, silver, shakudo and shibuichi in addition to the bronze. Signed JOUN SAKU on bottom of vase. Beautifully designed and executed. Oshima Joun was professor at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts from 1887 until 1932. He was famous for his skill with bronze castings. He exhibited at many exhibitions throughout Europe. Comes with original wooden storage box. The vase stands 12 1/4" tall and is 6" wide at the top and 4 3/4" wide at the bottom. The vase comes with a wooden stand. (dorususu) |
