Description: |
Japanese mid 20th century lacquer placque. The framed lacquer placque has the design of MADAI, or true perch done in lacquer with inlaid shell eyes. Made by lacquer artist YAMAZAKI RYUZAN (1897-1969). A Toyama lacquer artist. He was a NITTEN exhibitor and a NITTEN judge in post-war Japan. He was awarded the Prefectural Order of Cultural Merit by the Japanese government. His style of lacquer work ascended to a painterly approach to the lacquer craft. Comes with TOMOGIRE, artist stamped wrapping cloth and TOMOBAKO, artist signed wooden storage box. The placque measures 19" wide by 22 1/2" tall. (nodesu) |
