Description: Japanese late 20th century lacquer tray with catfish design by lacquer artist OHARA JIGOUEMON. His art name was HAKUSHO. OHARA was born in Kyoto in 1917 and he died in 2003. He was the 14th generation of a lacquer craft family originating back in the 16th century. In 1948 he won the Royal Warrant award at the 4th NITTEN show. His son, the 15th generation OHARA JIGOUEMON, with art name YOSHIHIRO, is also a NITTEN artist. The tray has two catfish on the front surface of the tray. The tray measures 15" in diameter and 1 5/8" tall.
