| Description: |
Japanese early 20th century Wajima lacquer bowl. The bowl is styled after a Japanese technique of making wooden bowls by "stitching" pieces of wood together with strips of cherry wood. This bowl is made to look like 2 triangular pieces of wood that have been "stitched" together on the sides. This bowl is actually done in one piece and painted in black lacquer with gold lacquer accents, giving the impression of the sides being stithced together. Signed by artist, WAJIMA KEI TAKU SAKU on bottom in gold lacquer. The bowl measures 6 1/8" tall, 10" in diameter at the widest and 5" in diameter at the base. |
